Impact of a longitudinal student-initiated home visit programme on interprofessional education

Introduction: Tri-Generational HomeCare (TriGen) is a student-initiated home visit programme for patients with key focus on undergraduate interprofessional education (IPE). We sought to validate the Readiness Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS) and evaluate TriGen’s efficacy by investigating healthcare undergraduates’ attitude towards IPE. Methods: Teams of undergraduates performed visits fortnightly over six months, trained professionals from regional hospital social service organisation. The RIPLS was validated using exploratory factor analysis. Evaluation via administration pre- post-intervention, analysis qualitative survey results thematic written feedback. Results: 79.6% 226 participants 2015-2018 were enrolled. Exploratory revealed four factors accounting 64.9% total variance. One item loaded poorly removed. There no difference in post-intervention subscale scores. 91.6% respondents agreed they better appreciated importance collaboration (IPC) patient care, 72.8% said MDMs important their learning. Thematic takeaways including learning teaching one another, understanding one’s own other professionals’ role, teamwork, meeting different faculties. Conclusion: Singapore demonstrated feasibility an interprofessional, programme.
